A friend of mine recently discovered that I had never watched The Incredibles. After chastising me for it, arrangements were made for me to watch the film. After watching I do agree that I should have watched it long ago. It was a really great film! Thanks Dan!
The story follows two ‘Supers’ Mr Incredible and ElastiGirl. Both are introduced fighting crime while Mr Incredible is rushing to get to an event, stopping to help nab criminals and get cats out of trees. We quickly discover that he was rushing to his own wedding, and the bride to be is none other than ElastiGirl. It looks like this could have been a short film, but public opinion soon turns against the Supers, and they are all forced into retirement.
The story picks up with Bob and Helen raising their three children while Bob works a soulless job for an insurance company. Our heroes and their kids are actively trying to hide their powers and live a normal life. Things begin to change when Bob gets a new job offer after being fired and the story quickly picks up.
We’re then introduced to the villain, Syndrome, Bob’s former number one fan, and he’s out for revenge. The family is soon brought together and they defeat Syndrome and his evil robot and save the day. The ban on ‘Supers’ is rescinded and we get a happy ending.
This was a fun and fast paced animated film, and the only surprising thing about it is that Pixar waited 14 years to do a sequel. Take my advice on this one, if you haven’t seen it, do so. It’s well worth your time.
