The Dreaming #5

dreamng_cv5My latest review over at Impulse Gamer.  I chose this book due to its connection to The Vertigo Sandman Universe.

This book was a pretty good read.  Though not very friendly to new readers, it is easy to tell that the quality of the writing is top-notch as the story is very immersive and well paced.  Focusing on the Realm of The Dreaming, it features several characters, including Dream’s librarian, as they struggle to maintain his realm in his absence.

The art is probably the strongest part of the whole book, and while there are moments when the world feels solid, it does a great job of embodying the surreal nature of the realm.  The colour work is also well done, as in parts of the book we can see the vibrancy draining from The Dreaming.

If you’re a new reader to the series I would recommend it, but maybe wait for the trade to take in the whole story at once.
